When someone throws you a lemon, squirt it in their eye. I think everyone just unsubscribed from this blog. 🙂
Even though you and I may feel like squirting the lemon thrower in the eye, we know it is never right to do wrong.
When we are suffering from the blow of a lemon thrower, here is one of my favorite remedies straight from the Bible:
“A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” Proverbs 17:22
A merry heart is not dependent on outside circumstances.
A merry heart is spelled JOY! Jesus First, Others Next, Yourself Last
Tell Jesus all about your hurts, and then leave them on His Shoulders. His shoulders are huge!! Ask Him to fill you with the Holy Spirit and to help you forgive!
Get busy doing good unto Others by being a blessing to them.
For healing within Yourself:
Never rehash the hurt! Guard your mind by thinking on blessings. “Keep (guard) thy heart (mind, will, emotions) with all diligence…” Proverbs 4:23
Pray for the lemon thrower. “And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.” Job 42:10
If possible, send the lemon thrower a nice gift. I know… this is the last thing you would want to do. But, a gift has a calming effect like a baby given a pacifier. “A gift in secret pacifieth anger…” Proverbs 21:14
I always thought the only one who was pacified was the receiver of the gift, but it works the other way too. If you are offended by a lemon thrower and send a gift to her, your heart will be blessed and you are on your way to healing.
I have a hard time viewing a pressure as an opportunity, but that is what a pressure is: God’s opportunity to show Himself strong through me. God allows pressures to develop within me the Christ-like character qualities I need.
Sometimes God is silent during times of pressures.
That is the time we must cast down vain imaginations such as:
God does not care about me.
God has abandoned me.
God does not love me.
“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ” 2 Corinthians 10:5
My husband has a special talent. When a door is open, and a fly quickly enters, my husband is even quicker to catch that fly with his bare hand. He then shakes the fly silly and casts the fly as hard as he can down to the floor…the end of the fly. My husband then cleans fly germs off his hands.
A vain imagination is like that disgusting fly.
A vain imagination dirties our mind.
We need to:
Immediately cast down that vain imagination.
Cleanse our mind by thinking on: ““whatsoever things aretrue…” Philippians 4:8
Instead of the Vain Imagination, Replace it with the TRUTH of:
God cares about me. (“he careth for you.” 1 Peter 5:7b)
God will not abandon me. (“…I will never leave thee…” Hebrews13:5)
God loves me. (“In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.” 1 John 4:9)
That # 3 Truth…Wow! Let’s just face the fact! God is crazy about you and me!
“I love how God brings total strangers together by the most unique ways!”
“Catie and I met through Craigslist, because I had put my wedding dress up for sale. However, when I told my husband I found a buyer for my wedding dress, for sentimental reasons, he was not excited. Aww :)”
“Catie suggested renting the dress instead. Great idea!”
Melinda found out Catie had been homeschooled, and Catie found out Melinda loved photography. She asked Melinda to be her wedding photographer.
I enjoy when my loved ones give me hugs, because they love me. I enjoy when God gives me hugs, because He loves me. I am so very thankful that God always sends hugs exactly when I need them!
As I write this, my husband and I took a second honeymoon after 31 years. When we checked into our hotel, I told the clerk we just became “empty nesters”. The clerk upgraded our hotel free of charge to the most beautiful hotel suite they had, called the Penthouse. Was I excited! This fabulous room boasted of a spectacular ocean view on one side and the bay on the other; God’s awesome creation. “Thank You Lord for Your hugs today!”
In Genesis 1, God created the beautiful earth and the incredible animals for the people. His creation is for you and me to enjoy because God loves us. As Barry and I looked out of the huge windows on our 10th floor penthouse suite, we enjoyed God’s creation: the majestic sunrise, the silver shimmering ocean, the beautiful white beach, the seagulls and pelicans flying. When I see the beauty of God’s creation, I believe God is sending a hug to me.
I found out there is no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. 🙂 As I looked out of
the windows on the 10th floor, the colorful rainbow began at one end of the water and ended at the other end. Rainbows are to remind us that God is a Promise Keeper. Rainbows are a result of sunshine and rain. God is a Promise Keeper on sunny days. God is a Promise Keeper on rainy days. God gives us special hugs on the good days! God gives us special hugs on the dreary days! We just have to be on the look-out for God’s hugs, so we don’t miss them.
Today, as we go about our day, let’s hug our loved ones and look for ways God is hugging us today! “Thank you Lord for Your hugs today!”
In the photo at the right, Melinda met Jeremy in person for the first time. They had a long distance courtship for quite a while before they met. Jeremy gets Melinda the moon. 🙂
The Importance of A Mother’s Prayers
Melinda, our daughter and her husband live in an apartment. They were having difficulties with the neighbors below them and were not getting much sleep. The neighbors would have wild parties after midnight and even though the neighbors had been kindly confronted to stop, they continued the inconsiderate behavior.
I received a text from Melinda that still humbles me. She wrote, “Mom, I know you are a prayer warrior. I have seen throughout my whole life your prayers answered.” Melinda wanted me to pray about the inconsiderate neighbor problem and how they were not getting much rest.
Over three years prior, I cried out for the Lord to bring the right man into Melinda’s life NOW. It was the desperate cry of a mother interceding for her daughter. I begged the Lord, “Melinda has been faithful. She needs a husband
who loves You Lord, so she can best serve You. And she needs him now, so please Lord, bring her future husband into her life NOW!”
A few days after my desperate prayer, Jeremy contacted Melinda’s Dad about Melinda. My eyes got really big and I was in awe, because I knew God had answered my prayer. Was I ever rejoicing on the inside! I had to keep “my rejoicing, thanking and praising of the Lord” private for obvious reasons. I couldn’t hide my happiness though. I was in awe!
I did not reveal to Jeremy how God had answered my prayer request until right before he walked out to marry our daughter, Melinda. That was when I told Jeremy about the time that I cried out for God to send Melinda’s husband NOW. Then a few days later, Jeremy called Barry about Melinda. I still can’t get over the awesomeness of it all!!!!
Jeremy grew up in Mexico, the son of missionaries to Mexico. Cindy, a missionary teacher, taught the missionary kids, and Jeremy was one of her students. Over three years ago, Melinda went to Mexico for a mission trip and stayed with Cindy. Melinda and Cindy snapped a picture together and Cindy put the picture on her Facebook.
Jeremy saw the picture of Melinda. From the picture, he said he knew Melinda was the “one”. Jeremy was also impressed with Melinda’s wholesome look and her modest clothing.
Of course, when Barry received the phone call from Jeremy, he had to get to know Jeremy. He also gave Jeremy assignments. Jeremy passed the “tests”, they had an incredible courtship where Melinda fell in love with Jeremy and they eventually married.
Well, was my prayer answered with Jeremy and Melinda’s noisy partying neighbors? The next time their neighbors had a loud party, the neighbors sent a gift bag to Melinda and Jeremy containing candy plus earplugs! So funny!
Melinda and Jeremy just moved from the noisy apartment a couple of weeks ago and are in the process of looking for a house. Please join me in praying for them as they seek to find a house. I will let your know what happens.
A mother’s prayers are so very important!
Mothers need to be prayer warriors when it comes to praying for their children’s spouses! It is never too early to start praying for their spouses either.
Update: Photo of Melinda and Jeremy’s new house which was recently bought in
October of 2012. They are loving it and their new neighbors have been a blessing. Answered Prayer! God is good!
